Dear Cheltenham Family-

We are thankful to be a part of a community that is committed to communication around our health as a neighborhood.  We know that DPS is working hard to keep us all informed daily about new information and ways to be proactive and responsive in our own homes.  We would like to share information about how we are working daily to keep Cheltenham clean:

  • We clean common spaces often, with extra care to water fountains and door handles
  • Our cafeteria, bathrooms and water fountains are disinfected daily
  • Classrooms surfaces and commonly used areas are cleaned daily, at a minimum
  • All kids wash their hands upon entry to classrooms and as appropriate
  • Our office, nurse’s office and Hazel clinic are cleaned daily and more often as appropriate

We have received important information from DPS and The Department of Public Health and Environment with guidelines on when to keep a child home and when we will send a child home (note they don’t need to show all 3 symptoms at once):

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

If you or your child is experiencing these symptoms, it’s responsible to stay home until fever and other symptoms have improved without the use of medications.  In this event, it is IMPERATIVE that you call us and share information for our school nurse to log.  An absence is only excused through a phone call or parent contact.  You can also email Mary Van Nest, our nurse at mary_vannest@dpsk12.org.

Additionally we want to make sure you utilize our Hazel Medical clinic onsite when you have concerns about the health of your child.  You can visit our clinic even if you keep your child home.  Please call us to make an appointment and we will share how to enter our building (you will not enter though the main entrance).

Do not hesitate to call with any questions.  We are here for you.  Our goal is to keep our school healthy, open and running for our kids to have the least interruption to their daily schedule and yours.

Here is the DPS hotline as well 720-424-4357 or email Coronavirus@Info@dpsk12.org. Someone will answer the call around the clock.

In Partnership~
